Deputy Premier gives hope

Deputy Premier, Peter Ryan.

THE State Government has indicated planning rules could be relaxed slightly in South Gippsland. Deputy Premier Peter Ryan said councils need more flexibility to determine development in their own municipalities, rather than be governed by a state-wide policy. He has urged South Gippsland Shire Council to submit examples of planning permit applications that would be [...]

Another truck rolls

This garbage truck took out a bus shelter, but narrowly missed a petrol station, a house and a power pole.

Truck tally shows need for bypass

TRUCKS ply through the Leongatha CBD at an extraordinary rate. They seem to be at their busiest first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon. But there are many during the day as well. The Star took a survey, totally lacking in bureaucratic rigour, for 20 minutes from 9.50am yesterday, counting a total [...]

Council mistake may hinder dreams

House block?

MORE people could have fulfilled their dream of building a house on rural properties if not for a mistake by South Gippsland Shire Council. Earlier this month, councillors were told that during negotiations with the former State Government about rural [...]
