DYSON Heppell capped off a magnificent Anzac Day match for Essendon against Collingwood in front of nearly 90,000 fans at the MCG, being runner-up to Magpie Scott Pendlebury for the Anzac Medal. Council holds key to dreams

Nearing resolution: South Gippsland Shire Council’s acting planning manager, Paul Stampton, and director of development services, Phil Stone, with Shelley McGuinness of RMCG consultants, show off the draft strategy.

DREAMS could become reality if South Gippsland Shire Council changes planning rules that have thrown futures into disarray. More people could enjoy a country lifestyle and farmers could subdivide land to raise capital or retire if council introduces new planning guidelines. However the proposed changes – contained in council’s draft Rural Land Use Strategy – [...]

A SIGN placed outside a Leongatha church caused outrage throughout the town at the start of Easter. Many passers-by complained about the board, placed outside the Presbyterian Church last Thursday, which read “Remember Good Friday and support your local church (or you may end up with a mosque)”. HEAVY rain that stopped traffic in Melbourne today (Tuesday) resulted in Stony Creek bursting  its banks. Water rushed across Meeniyan-Promontory Road just south of Meeniyan and engulfed the bridge over the creek. Natural debris such as small branches, bark and dirt were left clinging to the rails of the bridge, while the creek seemed to [...]

Dancing through the ages

Save the last dance for me: Shirleyanne and Glenn Wright are hanging up their dancing shoes after 25 years of training debutantes.

GREAT dancers aren’t great because of their technique; they are great because of their passion. And a passion for dance is something Glenn and Shirleyanne Wright of Leongatha certainly have. However, their attributes do not end there. They also have a great deal of time and patience, having trained debutante couples for 25 years, totalling [...]
