A MARRIED Leongatha couple plan to retire and donate to the community after winning the $40 millon Oz Lotto jackpot this week.

After an intense three day search, Oz Lotto’s $40 million jackpot prize was claimed this afternoon by a couple who say they have lived in Leongatha for many years.

The stunned winners, who wish to remain anonymous, came to the staggering realisation late last night that their ticket in Tuesday night’s Oz Lotto draw had all seven winning numbers.

The couple purchased their unregistered 36-game QuickPick ticket in Leongatha from Nextra Newsagency Leongatha, 30 Bair Street in Leongatha.

After an intense three day search of the South Gippsland region to find the nation’s newest multi-millionaire, the search has ended with the winners coming forward late today to claim their tractor load of cash.

“It’s a big, big shock! It’s incredible! Someone told us to check our ticket and it turned out that it was us all along. We thought we better let you know to stop looking. We’ve checked the numbers on our ticket over and over but they still haven’t changed!” the winning wife laughed.

“We’re still taking it all in and trying to grasp the size of our win! The thought had never ever even entered our minds that we would win a $40 million jackpot prize!

“Even when the numbers are right in front of you, you still don’t believe it! We’re just going to take our time to absorb this incredible news.”

The winning couple said they have always had plans to share any good fortunes that came their way.

“It’s always been our plan that if we won the lottery, even $1 million, that we would share the money with the Leongatha community and many other good causes and now that plan has just grown a lot bigger,” the winners explained.

“Giving some back is what it’s all about; we fully believe in that. This windfall is more than enough to look after our family and we’re not greedy, so all we’ve been thinking about is how else we can help. I don’t even think we’ve made any plans for ourselves yet!

“The biggest change for us after winning will be being able to retire and not being under the clock. It’s amazing what you can do with more time to enjoy the things you love.”

The winners wish to remain completely anonymous and request that their confidentiality is respected and upheld as they quietly and privately start their new lives as multi-millionaires.

The winning numbers in Oz Lotto’s $40 million draw 1162 on Tuesday 24 May 2016 were 22, 32, 25, 11, 38, 4 and 5. The supplementary numbers were 20 and 40.

Peter Watchorn is the owner of Nextra Newsagency Leongatha and said it was great news the win has gone to a local couple.

“It’s a boost for not only our business but for the local community!” he said.

“It’s great news for the area and it has really put Leongatha on the map!

“We’ve had lots of our local customers asking us about the win and they are all really excited and happy that it’s our outlet that has sold the winning entry.

“Fingers crossed the luck rubs off on some of our other local customers. They say good things happen in threes so we’re hoping for some more wins for the South Gippsland region.”
