Road slips away

FOSTER Mirboo Road will be out of order for the next six months after a landslide yesterday (Wednesday).

Almost the entire road fell away due to heavy rain over the past few days.

The road collapsed about one kilometre from the South Gippsland Highway. A South Gippsland Shire Council spokesperson said drivers would need to use Ameys Track or the Stony Creek Dollar Road instead, although the diversion will add about 20 minutes to travel time.

Geotechnical engineers will come to survey the site before rebuilding the road. It’s estimated the damage bill could be as high as $300,000.

Slipping away: Foster Mirboo Road can’t be classed as a road anymore.
