Potholes threaten lives

This large pothole on the Bass Highway was causing a headache for motorists on Friday morning.

POTHOLES are emerging all over the region’s road, threatening the lives of drivers and their passengers. A truck suddenly swerved around a massive pothole near Nortons Road, Leongatha South this morning, narrowly missing a stream of oncoming traffic. The truck’s trailer swerved with the momentum and frightened passing motorists, who momentarily feared for their safety. The pothole – along with others along the highway – were promptly reported to VicRoads by The Star. An officer said the potholes would be repaired today.

  1. I see the same potholes week in, week out on the Sth Gippy Hwy….So much for repairing them promptly. In the meantime road verges are being sealed and those deadly wire rope barriers are rearing their ugly head while our roads continue to fall apart…..

  2. The Strzelecki Hwy suffers the same fate and I travel up and down it atleast once a day to Leongatha, problem is every time we get rain the road breaks up and although the council are great at patching the holes the road base moves so much that the tar breaks up around the hole and often the damage spreads.
This is the same as rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic and the Straz really needs to be better drained under the road surface to survive especially when you take the heavy commercial traffic into account.
