Lyric Theatre’s romantic comedy opens Friday

LYRIC Theatre’s upcoming production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream boasts a cast of 30, including award winning actors alongside blossoming teenage talents and exuberant younger performers.

As in all community theatre, many gifted people have worked behind the scenes creating the set and imaginative costumes, and in this case images for projection, lighting to simulate moonlight and original music.

The members of Lyric Theatre are confident they have prepared a production that will entertain the whole family.

There will be five evening and four matinee performances from September 23 to October 2.

A complimentary light supper will be served after the show on opening night and the bar will be open, giving the audience a chance to mingle with the cast.

Shakespeare was a young man when he wrote this comedy and his youthful love of life is reflected in a script full of romantic intrigue, colourful characters and magical practical jokes.

Director Bernadette Grainger has chosen to set Lyric Theatre’s production of this much loved work in a 1970s Australian rural town, and believes the language and themes of this comedy make the transition seamlessly.

Tickets are $20/$15 and available online at www.lyrictheatre.net.au or the box office at Great Southern Outdoors, 1 Bair Street, Leongatha, from Thursday to Friday 11am to 3pm, and Saturday, 10am to noon. Phone 0490 525482.

Tickets will also be available at Mesley Hall Theatre before each performance.
