Strong competition for Bass Coast Business Awards

FOR the eighth year running, Bass Coast businesses will be recognised for excellence at the 2016 Bass Coast Business Awards.
Entries closed last month and the 19 finalists have been announced.
This year’s finalists are A Maze’N Things, Bass Strait Direct, Cheeky Goose Cafe, Coast Magazine, Diverse Auto Electrics, Grantville Pharmacy, Inverloch Views, Island Whole Foods, Maru Koala and Animal Park, Mendl’s Coffee House, My 24/7 Gym, newsXpress Inverloch, Phillip Island Tenpin Bowling and Entertainment Centre, Rhyll Trout and Bush Tucker Farm, Sargeants Bass Coast Conveyancing, Silverwater Resort, the Cape Kitchen, Wattlebank Park Farm and Wildlife Coast Cruises.
Each year, the Bass Coast Business Awards highlight the strengths of local businesses and recognises the hard work of the staff involved.
There are six categories in the judged awards – business excellence zero-five employees, business excellence six or more employees, marketing and promotion, new business, environment and sustainability, and good access is good business.
Businesses can also get involved in the people’s choice awards.
“Five of the 19 businesses were finalists in multiple categories. Over 150 different businesses were nominated in the people’s choice awards,” Bass Coast Shire Council mayor Jordan Crugnale said.
“This year we had a big increase in new entrants to the awards. Over 50 percent of entries were from businesses that had never entered before.”
Voting for people’s choice closed last Monday (August 8).
The awards will be presented at an awards dinner at the Silverwater Resort this Friday, August 19.
This is an exciting night open to all businesses – not just businesses that entered – all staff, and friends.
Cr Crugnale said it was important to host these awards to acknowledge the achievements businesses make each year and set a benchmark for businesses in the region.
“The awards encourage innovation and business excellence within our local business community and provide an opportunity for businesses to be recognised for their valued contribution to the community. The awards presentation dinner is also a great networking opportunity for our local business community,” she said.
“The Bass Coast Business Awards also provide a stepping stone for businesses looking to enter bigger awards programs such as the Gippsland Business Awards, Victorian Tourism Awards and the Telstra Business Awards.”
