Fire burns plantation

Big guns: the Elvis fire-fighting helicopter drops dam water on the flames.

AN EXPLODED transformer on a powerline is believed to have caused a massive fire north of Inverloch this afternoon (Tuesday).
The Elvis fire-bombing helicopter was called in to extinguish the blaze in a pine plantation at Stuchberrys Road, north of Inverloch.
The fire broke out about lunch-time.
Fire crews from as far as Glen Alvie and Ruby attended the scene, battling the blaze on the ground and filling up from nearby dams until air support arrived.
Department of Sustainability and Environment officers also assisted.
Smoke could be soon from several kilometres away.
The plantation adjoined a home that house remained protected by fire crews at 3.30pm today.
