THE beauty of Inverloch is well known throughout Gippsland and Melbourne, but those wanting to find out more about the wonders of the seaside town have a new place to turn to: Facebook.

The Inverloch Tourism Association has established a Facebook page dedicated to alerting people to future events and quirky happenings, and an online forum for talking about everything Inverloch.

Just three days after opening, the site had attracted 61 likes. With minimal content, that result impressed association president Dom Brusamarello.

“We will be developing content to engage with a variety of visitors who are coming to Inverloch,” he said.

Association committee member Adam Leys said the site will aim to source content from users that will be subject to review by the site administrators, and will link in with other Inverloch related Facebook pages.

“We will be looking at how we can partner with other organisations such as Anderson Inlet Angling Club, the Inverloch Windsurfing Club, the bike riding group and the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club,” he said.

“It’s about useful content that people want to consume rather than just promotions. There is a hotbed of people that visit Facebook several times throughout the day.”

Contributions could include a photo of the winner of a windsurfing competition or a photo of a fish caught from the beach.

The association is proposing to extend its technological foray into using QR codes and search engine marketing as part of a broader social media strategy.

The association is planning to host local artists markets at Rainbow Park on December 29 and the Australia Day long weekend in 2014.
