Ryan rushes to top

MIRBOO group firefighter William Ryan took part in a race up the 28 floors of Melbourne’s Crown Towers recently.

The event is the first of its type in Melbourne.

Members of fire agencies – Country Fire Authority, Metropolitan Fire Brigade,  Rural Fire Service, New Zealand fire services and other international organisations – faced off in full structural gear with breathing apparatus.

The event was created to raise funds for the Alfred Hospital burns unit, and organisers and participants raised $122,000 – more than the goal of $100,000.

“I was the only member from Mirboo group to participate in the event and I was lucky enough to raise over $1000 for the worthy cause,” Will said.
He placed second in the 19-39 years age category from 41 competitors.
