Trucks roll blocks highway

A truck rolled on the South Gippsland Highway near Koonwarra yesterday morning, leaving the road strewn with large logs.

A Foster man escaped with his life after crawling from his upturned rig on the South Gippsland Highway between Koonwarra and Meeniyan on Monday morning.
The truck was carrying a load of logs when it came to grief with both the truck and its load sprawled across the highway for several hours while the mess was cleared.
Leongatha police told The Star the truck, a “trailer and dog” combination, lost tracking on the road which set off a series of events resulting in the truck overturning as it was approaching the dangerous Koonwarra bends.
Police said neither alcohol nor driver fatigue were a factor in the crash. They were investigating any mechanical aspects of the crash.
There was a fair element of luck involved in this accident as no Foster-bound vehicle was in the vicinity at the time but cars arrived within seconds.
Police said that log trucks use this road regularly and drivers should always be vigilant when it comes to trucks on the road.
