THE ESPLANADE Hotel in Inverloch was bursting at the seams last Friday night when Melbourne based band British India played to a sold out crowd.

The ARIA nominated indie rockers, made up of lead vocalist and guitarist Declan Melia, guitarist Nic Wilson, bassist Will Drummond and drummer Matt O’Gorman, got the crowd jumping to hits including Vanilla, Tie Up My Hands, I Said I’m Sorry and Avalanche.

Tickets were selling like hotcakes in the week leading up to the gig, with 400 sold pre-sale and another 100 snapped up at the door on the night.

Event organiser Blake McCarthy said he didn’t expect the concert to sell out, but demand did increase just before the gig.

“We sold about 200 before the last week then ticket sales exploded after that,” he said.

“A lot of locals came, but a lot of people came down from Mornington, Traralgon and Warragul – basically most of Gippsland was there. It blew my expectations.”

Blake said he’s looking at bringing the British India boys back to Inverloch on their tour for their fourth album, as well as bringing other high profile bands to the Espy.

“I’m going to get a vibe from the town and see what sort of bands they want to see, but I’m looking at booking a few high profile bands in the next month or two.”
