Breaking news – childcare extension

Childcare services at Mirboo North will be continued until the end of April.

The Mirboo North and District Community Foundation last night voted to meet the deficit in funding to enable services to continue.

That amounts to $24,000 or $12,000 per month.

UnitingCare Gippsland was to withdraw from providing childcare at the end of February, but agreed to continue to run the centre until the end of April if another source of funding was found.

The community foundation came to the party, delighting South Gippsland Shire Council acting CEO Jan Martin.

“We are really thrilled. It could not have been a better Christmas present for the Mirboo North community,” she said.

Council has named YMCA Ballarat as the preferred provider of childcare services at Mirboo North once UnitingCare Gippsland withdraws.

The YMCA is yet to confirm such an involvement. The YMCA operates the adjoining kindergarten.
