Hello Kris and goodbye Casey
LEONGATHA’S own Kris McLaren, 26, will race for the first time ever in the AirAsia Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island this weekend.
While world champion and Aussie favorite Casey Stoner will be racing in his farewell event this weekend McLaren will be making his debut.
His parents Pam and Craig are really excited and will be cheering him on this weekend down at the Island.
Mum Pam said it is a bit daunting but also “just amazing”.
Pam said, “Kris was asked to race with the Spanish Avintia Blusens race team, as a World Moto GP rider”
“One of their riders had a injury after the Malaysian race and wasn’t able to race this week end and after a meeting with them yesterday (Thursday) it was confirmed McLaren will be racing his first World Moto GP race at his home track, Phillip Island,” she said.
“The same race as Casey Stoner with his last race and Kris’ first race.”
McLaren headed down to the Island on Thursday to get acquainted with his gear and to have his first ride on a MotoGP bike.
Look out for Kris with the number 43 this weekend.
McLaren was a wildcard entry in the Moto2 class last year, and has spent 2012 racing in the Spanish CEV Moto2 class this season, scoring a podium finish at Jerez.
